LMIA
LMIA stands for Labour Market Impact Assessment. This document is issued by the Employment and Social Development Canada to the employer ensuring that the employer can hire a temporary worker to fill a job place as no Canadian is available to joint the job. Majority of temporary workers need a LMIA to apply a work permit. LMIA is also know as Confirmation letter.
LMIA is to be applied by the employer. It could be for a Low wage or high wage position. The wages are determined from the median hourly wages of the area where the business is established. For applying a LMIA the employer needs to have a business running in good Standings and can proof the business’s legitimacy. Employer must have a Job Bank Account. He must have tried to hire Canadian through different way by posting the job availability online and offline.
LMIA can be applied online and on paper application form. The application must contain:
- Application form for LMIA Latest Version (High or Low wages)
- Business legitimacy’s Proof
- Recruitment efforts proof
- Wages offered
- Job duties
- Transition plan
- Processing fees

LMIA can be to hire a foreign worker but it can be of dual intend too. Through the dual intend LMIA employer can hire a skilled worker ( NOC 0, A or B) to support their Permanent residency under Express entry and help them to get a Temporary work permit. Some employers also apply for LMIA just for supporting the PR of an express entry or PNP applicant.
